Project Estimator

ROLE

The successful candidate will become an integral member of the estimating team by pricing projects thoroughly and accurately within stringent time requirements. The candidate will consistently work to establish and grow relationships with the Project Management department, fellow estimators, subcontractors, and company clients in order to grow and maintain successful business operations. The candidate will become a key player in adapting to changing economies and will become an asset in assisting management to achieve future growth goals.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare comprehensive and accurate construction project estimates for the complete construction of new commercial construction projects.
  • Analyze contract drawings to provide take-off calculations and develop estimates.
  • Prepare estimates for the entire project scope of work, including but not limited to site development, concrete, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and prepare estimates as required to price the work of all trades contributing to future project completion. – Prepare hard bid, negotiated, and design/build project estimates.
  • Read, understand, identify, and price information contained in the contract drawings, contract specifications, and related contract documents.
  • Solicit subcontractors and answer questions, RFI’s, and act as the liaison between subcontractors and the architect to ensure the scope of work is clear and priced correctly.
  • Update and maintain subcontractor database in Bid Mail.
  • Prepare general conditions information based on historical data and forecasting of project requirements.
  • Research subcontractors, suppliers, and new or improved construction materials to ensure estimates are prepared with the most competitive products and pricing available in the marketplace.
  • Prepare the Job Book for projects awarded, detailing estimated amount per item of work.
  • Establish preliminary budget estimates for clients and architects during design development of the project documents
  • Perform all tasks and provide all support as required by the Chief Estimator.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 5-10 Years of construction experience.
  • Strong reading, writing, and personal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, and related construction documents.
  • Ability to manage and train personnel – Microsoft Office Suite experience (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Familiarity with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures. – Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. – Performs a variety of complicated tasks.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to work individually and in a team environment.
  • Must be able to work in an office environment.
